RENATER is France’s national network operator connecting research and higher education through telecommunications. It was established in the early 1990s and formalized as a public-interest group in 1993 to unite the infrastructures serving teaching and research. Based in Paris with regional presences in Grenoble, Montpellier, and Rennes, RENATER links over 1,300 sites to a high-capacity national backbone and, with around one hundred staff, continually evolves to support both national and international connectivity for its community. It serves major French research and education organizations as well as relevant ministries, including CNRS, France Universités, CEA, INRIA, CNES, INRAE, INSERM, ONERA, CIRAD, IRD, and BRGM. In 2020, RENATER appointed Eric as its CEO, signaling continuity in leadership as it maintains collaboration through the GÉANT network.
