Edison Carrier Solutions, a business unit of Southern California Edison, is a competitive local exchange carrier focused on the wholesale carrier and large business market offering high capacity special access services at DS-3 and above. Our customers are regional, national, and international telecommunication carriers, cable television companies, satellite providers, wireless providers, internet service providers, system integrators, and large enterprises. SCE has designed, constructed, and operated extensive telecommunications systems to support critical electric utility operations and business systems supporting 14 million people in a 50,000+ square-mile area spanning Southern California. In addition to providing electric service to customers for over a century, Edison has one of the largest competitive carrier fiber-optic networks in Southern California. Our initial start began with providing dark fiber to carriers in 1994. With the installation of the utility's fiber-optic network, we further extended our network and launched Edison Carrier Solutions, a facilities-based competitive local exchange carrier, in 1999. Today our network provides critical connectivity to 140+ locations including major carrier hotels, carrier POPs, data centers, and ILEC central offices.
