HEAnet is Ireland's national education and research network, based in Dublin and founded in 1983 with the support of the Higher Education Authority. It delivers Internet access, ICT and e-Infrastructure services to educational and research organizations across Ireland, linking universities, Institutes of Technology, other higher education institutions, research bodies, and primary to post-primary schools to enable access to online resources and collaboration with international networks. The network serves daily as the backbone for learning and research for roughly 210,000 third-level students and staff and about 800,000 first- and second-level students and staff rely on the HEAnet network each day. Positioned in the technology, information and internet sector, HEAnet functions as an essential e-Infrastructure provider that supports academic activity through a high-quality, resilient bandwidth network. In December 2025, HEAnet announced the launch of DNS Zone Manager, a self-service platform allowing client institutions to manage their HEAnet-hosted DNS zones.
